The aim of this study was to find out students’ perspectives on the application of ICT on how ICT has facilitated students in English language learning. Students’ application of ICT in English language learning was analyzed through the lens of constructivism learning theory.

This study was conducted by using a mixed-method study. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to collect data on the population of the Fourth Semester Students of English Study Program. Close-ended questionnaires were administered to 74 participants. The survey stage was followed by individual in-depth interview with 10 voluntary participants. The data were also fully corroborated by the contents analysis of the interactions mediated by the online discussion forum.

The findings of the study were presented with evidence of critical incidents of how ICT has facilitated students in learning English. The value of critical incident in this study was to yield authentic data that revealed students’ real-life experience on how ICT has facilitated students in learning English.

The findings revealed that the first emerging theme is learning motive, where students had self-awareness to engage in ICT activities such as the use of social media, e-books, wikipedia, blogs, and video-sharing websites. However, it was found that students had less familiarity and exposure to use other ICT activities for their learning. To the extent ICT has facilitated students in English language learning, it can be noted that the students preferred taking courses that use technology extensively (e.g., class lecturer notes online, computer simulation, PowerPoint presentations, streaming video or audio, etc.). It entailed that they had greater desire to be actively involved in learning activity with ICT. The application of ICT had benefited students’ learning in term of promoting constructivism learning theory as it was exposited into three thematic ideas namely, learning effected, task effected, and learning reshaped. Students with higher preference were more likely to have experiential learning activities.

Based on the findings, it is recommended that decision-makers can take the necessary steps to sustain students’ positive perspectives toward ICT, and offer them more training opportunities. It is also advisable the findings of this study could be the catalyst to promote an integration of technological surrounded environment in the faculty.
